About the Game

Battle across the European and Pacific fronts during World War II and take control of the United States Army Air Forces’ P-47 Thunderbolt! Fight to destroy Japan’s super-heavy prototype bomber, FUGAKU. With stunning multi-layered scrolling, navigate through beautifully rendered stages, including Europe’s scenic landscapes, high-altitude cloud seas, and vast oceans. Face iconic bosses, such as the battleship YAMATO and the airborne carrier AKAGI!

P-47: The Phantom Fighter was a relative success in the arcades. By 1989, ports appeared on the Amiga, Amstrad CPC, DOS, Atari ST, Commodore 64, and ZX Spectrum under the name P-47: The Thunderbolt in Europe. A version on the Japanese Mega Drive was planned to be released as P-47 II: The Freedom Star but was ultimately canceled. Despite this, a playable version was shown at events and its soundtrack was part of the Super ROM Cassette Disc In Jaleco in 2015.

This re-release will have the name P-47 II MD and feature new box art by Tankro Kato who is known for his illustrations on Hasegawa model kits. This updated version contains a new sound test mode and more polished graphics. You have a plethora of weapon power-ups and a Hyper-attack that will clear out all enemies and projectiles from the screen, in case of emergencies. This is the first time this game will release with this version compatible with the North American Genesis and PAL Mega Drive along with most 3rd party consoles. This is a real treat for shoot ‘em up fans who can finally experience this game that was all but forgotten.
